Donate up to $400 individually or $800 as a married couple filing jointly to take advantage of the Working Poor Tax Credit! See below for details and forms. Make your donation by the end of the year for it to qualify for this year’s taxes.
Because of the nutritional guidelines that go into the building of our grocery bags, we end up making a lot of our own food purchases. In fact, this makes up over 50% of our spending. This ensures that all of our bags have fruits, veggies, and protein, as well as the less expensive and often-donated grains and desserts. As a result, monetary donations are always needed to keep up our full inventory. The money you use to purchase even one canned good can bring us several times that amount when we make the purchases.
How much should I donate?
However much you want–every dollar makes a difference. Here are some suggested amounts that explain how much your donation will purchase.
$8 will provide one bag of groceries (four days’ worth of meals) for one person.
$32 will provide a bag of groceries for a family of four.
$48 will provide for one person for an entire year (six visits).
$100 will provide the Cupboard with over 400 jars of baby food.
$200 will provide the Cupboard with 200 pounds of beans plus 200 pounds of rice.
$500 will provide the Cupboard with 350 cans of fruit and vegetables.
Do I get a tax credit for my donation?
Yes! Donations to the Prescott Community Cupboard qualify for the Working Poor Tax Credit. You can receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit for your donation, up to $400 if you file individually or $800 if you file jointly. You do not have to itemize your taxes to take advantage of this tax credit. To claim the credit, you must fill out AZ Form 321 (here are the instructions, and here is the page will all of the forms available) and file the form with your individual Arizona 140 tax return.
